Call for Papers for Thematic Issue
Impact of COVID-19 and the Ukraine War on Foreign Direct Investment Inflows in Eastern European Economies [EEE]
Guest Editor, Prof. Dr. Badar Alam Iqbal
There are many studies that are carried out on the determinants of foreign direct investment in Eastern European Economies [EEE]. These studies explored several macroeconomic variables that determine foreign direct investment inflows. These studies also focused mainly on countries that are receiving foreign direct investment inflows. Therefore, it could be concluded that an impressive number of studies regarding the internationalization of firms, especially those that are responsible for owning and operating units in foreign locations, have been conducted for several decades. Multinational companies that own and operate units in foreign locations [EEE] are considered drivers of internationalization and globalization. These multinational companies promote interdependence between Eastern European Economies. They are therefore regarded as key actors in the globalization process.
Why Thematic Issue?
Despite the fact that there are many studies on the determinants of foreign direct investment, empirical research on the drivers of foreign direct investment (or foreign direct investment inflows) to Eastern European countries are limited, especially after the emergence of COVID-19 and the Ukraine War. It is, therefore, imperative to examine the post-COVID-19 and Ukraine War drivers of foreign direct investment [inflows] in Eastern European economies.
Issues to be taken up:
In light of the above, this thematic issue proposes to examine the determinants of foreign direct investment [inflows] in Eastern European countries. The investigation will be conducted through a review of the theoretical and empirical literature. The papers may use an empirical model to investigate the drivers of foreign direct investment [inflows] in the European economies in general and the Eastern European economies in particular. Panel data econometric techniques may also be used by the prospective authors to estimate the empirical model. The results of this study will have policy implications for the European economies in general and the Eastern European economies in particular. The thematic issue will also focus on the effects of COVID-19 and the Ukraine War on FDI inflows in European economies, with much more emphasis on Eastern European economies.
Topics to Consider:
The major thrust should be on the following issues:
FDI inflows to European economies and Eastern European Economies;
Post COVID-19 and Ukraine War Growth pattern of FDI inflows in European economies and Eastern European economies;
Factors governing and affecting FDI inflows in European and Eastern European economies: promotion of trade and investment relations among the Eastern European economies;
Availability of incentives from the host countries to foreign investors under the persisting and intensified competition among Eastern European economies.
Post-COVID-19 and Ukraine FDI Policy in Eastern European economies;
Emerging issues and challenges for Eastern European economies for FDI inflows post COVID-19 and Ukraine War.
